Disney’s Alladin broadway musical has brought its magic to Tampa at the Straz Center in Tampa. Thanks to my relationship with Tampa Bay Bloggers, I received complimentary tickets from the Straz Center. Full disclosure
Aladdin is one of my favorite Disney movies, and I’ve wanted to see the broadway musical for several years.
I was really curious as to how they would be able to pull off the same magic and wonder of the movies on stage with a genie, flying carpet, Jafar’s sorcery, and talking animals like the parrot and Aladdin’s pet monkey.
From the moment the curtains were raised, we were transported to Agrabah, the fictitious Arabian nation where the story of Aladdin takes place.
The sets of this musical are insane! From the desert cave to the streets of Agrabah to the palace, every location of the story felt so real.
The colors are vibrant and every detail so elaborate. I was truly engulfed into Jasmine and Aladdin’s world.
The big dance numbers were fantastic. My favorite was the Genie’s famed “Never Had a Friend Like Me”. It was very Bollywood meets old Hollywood glam with glitz, glitter, and multiple styles of dance.
The actor portraying the Genie was perfection! He was hilarious. I thought that all of the performers were well cast for their roles.
The other memorable scene is definitely “A Whole New World”. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but let’s just say that somehow they were able to make this live performance just as magical as the movie scene.
I’m so grateful The Straz Center continues to bring quality broadway shows like this to Tampa
It’s also a great activity for tourists to the area to know that while they are here, they can take in a quality performance at The Straz.
Disney’s Aladdin will be playing at the Straz in Tampa through Jan. 5th.
If it happens to be playing in your city or a city you are visiting then make it happen and go.
