Summer will be here before you know it and that means it’s time to start planning for those family road trips or road trips with your friends.
When I’m planning a road trip, I’m more likely to rent a car than to drive my own since I drive 4 door sedan. If I’m going to be in the car for more than just a couple of hours then I want a car with more space and amenities than my everyday car. Cars.com is a great resource to help select the perfect road trip vehicle.

Here are the top 5 things I look for in the perfect road trip vehicle:
5. Style
If I’m going to pay to rent a car, then I’m looking for something a lot more stylish than the car I drive everyday. It’s nice to get that “new car” feeling every now and then.
4. Safety
Of course safety is a top priority. I want a vehicle a high safety rating and all of the latest safety features. I also look at crash test reports to ensure we can be as safe as possible on the road.
3. Efficiency
If we’re going on a road trip a gas guzzler is not the ideal option. While I definitely prefer a larger vehicle to hold all of our luggage and gear, it still needs to be great on gas mileage.
2. Technology
My everyday car is as basic as basic can get, but when I’m on a road trip those modern technical instrumentation tools are a big help. I look for things like lane departure warning, rear cameras, blind spot monitoring, and parking assistance,
1. Space
My number one qualifier when I’m looking for the perfect road trip car is space! My son and I both have long legs so the seating in the front seats is paramount for us. Some of the smaller SUV’s leave me feeling claustrophobic. Sometimes we bring the doggo along with us on trips so we need enough space for him and our luggage and other stuff. I admit that I’m a chronic over packer so storage space is key.
