Recently I partnered with Reeves Subaru of Tampa to have an adventurous weekend with the new 2017 Subaru Impreza. I experienced some new features that left an overall impressive opinion of the Impreza.
I’ll be honest, Subaru hasn’t ever been on my radar in my car buying. They aren’t exactly known for aesthetics and I just never really saw one that caught my eye. In fact I haven’t even known a Subaru owner so I haven’t even been inside of one. I went into this car review completely unbiased and without any preconceived ideas.
I was given a premium black 2017 Impreza 5-door hatch model as my loaner for a fun-filled weekend. I decided the perfect adventure would be visiting one of the state parks in the county, afterall Subaru loves the great outdoors! They are proud supporters of organizations like the National Park Foundation, American Forests, and Leave No Trace as well as several other organizations dedicated to preserving and protecting our natural resources.
The Impreza and I headed to Little Manatee River State Park for a little bit of R&R. On the interstate the Impreza had plenty of get up and go and provided a smooth ride. The best part about driving the Impreza on this micro road trip was getting to experience the EyeSight® technology!
EyeSight® is like having a copilot navigating with you. It warns you and applies breaks and lowers speeds if a driver hits the brakes unexpectedly in front of you or cuts you off.

I set the cruise control to the desired speed and then also set the distance I wanted the Impreza to keep from the car ahead. I also enabled the Lane Keep Assist to test out this feature that helps to keep you in your lane.
EyeSight® is amazing! There was a fair amount of traffic on the highway and I could feel and see the car accelerate and decelerate on its own to adjust and keep the desired distance from cars in front of me. The only thing I’d like is the ability to hover and then we would really be in the age of the Jetsons. This feature was one of my favorite things about driving the Impreza.
Features I loved:
- EyeSight® technology – Learn more about this tech
- Roomy hatch trunk for my outdoorsy gear
- Rear Vision Camera
- Apple CarPlay
- Harman Speakers
- Extra side window triangles provided an almost cockpit like panoramic view.
I drove the Impreza into the equestrian campsite area to see how it handled on grass and rocky terrain. The all symmetrical allwheel drive handled like a dream. This means there is power to all of the wheels at all times.
I decided I would get out and do a bit of yoga since it was so quiet and serene. While there, a hiker from Michigan came over to check out the car and say hello, since the dealer tags drew some attention to me.
He was telling me that he has owned his Subaru for many years and he absolutely loves it! He has a Forester and he said it’s his vehicle of choice for enjoying the outdoors. How cool is that!
Overall it was a fun car to drive, but would I consider becoming an Impreza owner? I would, however I think the sedan model of the Impreza would fit my style a little more.
I saw a red sedan Impreza floor model at Reeves Subaru and it was very sporty and cute. I could definitely see myself in something like that. The 5-door/hatch model I drove just lacked that cutesy quality I like in a car. From a features standpoint I was completely pleased with the Impreza.
The backseat space in the Impreza was moderate. If your rear seating space is important to you, then the Impreza may be a bit to small and you might consider another Subaru.
I can certainly appreciate a brand that loves the outdoors as much as I do! It would be fantastic to show off some of their other outdoorsy vehicles. Thanks to Reeves Subaru and Tampa Bay Bloggers for the opportunity to get #Driven with the 2017 Subaru Impreza! All views expressed are my own honest thoughts and opinions. (full disclosure)

March 2, 2017 at 9:18 pmA lot of people [teens] on Long Island have a Subaru Impreza, and they’re fast cars. Ask me how I know? Some teen has cut me off quite a few times. I wish I could call their parents to let them know, too lol
