When visitors think of Key West, what comes to mind is Duval Street and Mallory Square, which are ordinarily brimming with tourists. However, there are great Key West excursions to add safe, outdoor adventures to your trip.
Key West resorts, bed and breakfast inns, and rental homes offer a wide variety of comfortable, clean accommodations for an unforgettable stay in the Florida Keys.
Here are 7 Key West adventures to add to your Key West itinerary.
1. Snorkel Tour in Key West
There are several snorkel tour operators in Key West to take you out to explore the clear blue waters and tropical reefs.
Honest Eco is one of the best tour operators for a day on the water to see dolphins and snorkel. What makes them so unique is their boat is an electric powered one of kind catamaran and the crew are marine biologists who are also studying the dolphin population in the waters of Key West. It’s a phenomenal tour and it makes all the difference to have a knowledgeable guide in the water with you.
2. Kayak Key West Mangroves
Exploring the Key West mangroves with a guided kayak or SUP tour is a great way to see the ecosystem up close and personal.
There are shorter half-day trips and full-day trips. Some tours offer a combination of both snorkel and kayaking if you want to double up your adventure.
3. Helicopter Ride Over Key West
Get a bird’s eye view of Key West and all of its iconic sites like Duval Street and the Southernmost Point.
Tours range from 10, 20, or 30 minutes with Air Adventures Helicopters.

4. Parasail Over Key West
Take to the skies and soar high above to see Key West from a spectacular vantage point. Go parasailing with one of the local boat charters in the area. This is the best view of Key West you can get. The turquoise waters will provide unimaginable scenery you won’t soon forget.
5. Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
Swim and snorkel this small protected beach cove. This is also a popular place to bird watch. There’s also a fort to explore that predates the Civil War. Fort Zachary has tons of relics and history.
6. Explore Key West With a Scavenger Hunt
Let’s Roam Scavenger Hunt is a Key West excursion that offers a unique way to explore the city on foot. The scavenger hunt is an activity that can be reserved from 2 – 6 people.
Use a mobile app to start your own unique adventure and race against the clock while you venture to parts of Key West you would otherwise never see.
7. Key West Hop On Hop Off Tour
You can never go wrong with a good old fashioned hop on hop off tour. The Key West Hop on Hop off will allow you to see the notable locations like the Ernest Hemingway Home and the Key West Museum.
The convenience of not having to worry about paying for parking or getting lost while you explore the island is a great reason the Hop on Hop off Tour is one of my favorite Key West Excursions.
Another great advantage of visiting the Florida Keys is the easy access to explore the other islands in the keys. It’s definitely worth it to add exploring some of the other keys to your visit.
