Greetings! I know you were all waiting and anticipating the next stop on our Island Hopping Caribbean adventure. My apologies for taking so long to pick this back up. I had to prepare for a major move to the other side of the county. I’ve left the comforts of luxury apartment living in über suburbia for a little slice of country life in a nice size house on a ginormous plot of land. No worries; it’s just down the street from a different suburbia. Instead of Super Target in my backyard, I have to journey about 20 minutes down the interstate. It’s been different to say the least and it’s already yielded some new adventures and I can’t wait to share them with you. We are all moved in and settled now so I’m getting back into my normal routine, which means writing and sharing adventures. Now without further adieu, on to St. Kitts!
To jog your memory, so far we’ve revisited Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Barbados, and St. Lucia. Our next port of call was the small hilly and arid island of St. Kitts. This was going to be a very special day because we would be fulfilling a bucket list request for my mom. She wanted to go zip lining. We booked this excursion with Sky Safari zip line company through the cruise line and it was an amazing experience.
Our guides were all very funny and personable. They knew my mom was a bit nervous but their sense of humor put her right at ease. The views up in the mountain were breathtaking. Feeling the wind rush through your hair as you fly down the line is such a rush. I really loved the style of harness they used because it allows you to have your hands free to use your camera. If you’re feeling really adventurous you can even hang upside down for an extra rush of adrenaline. We were fortunate enough to glimpse a family of monkeys as we trekked through the forest. Our guide said that monkeys on the island outnumber people 4 to 1! My mom conquered here fear and soared like an eagle. It was a very memorable morning.
We wanted to spend the last half of the day on the beach. At the recommendation of one of our zip-line guides, we caught a taxi to Carambola Beach Club for a day of relaxation. On the ride over we stopped at a famed lookout point where you can actually gaze down at the Atlantic Ocean on your left and the Caribbean Sea on your right with the sister island of Nevis in the backdrop. It makes for some absolutely awesome photographs.
The staff of Carambola greeted us warmly and more than accommodating. Palm trees, cushioned chairs, ice-cold drinks, aquamarine clear water, and a volcanic mountain on the sister island of Nevis in the background. It couldn’t have been a more perfect day.
St. Kitts is definitely an island for relaxation. The people are warm and funny and this island is now a high contender on my list of places I’d like to retire. A girl can dream right?
