There’s an awesome day called National Public Lands Day (NPLD) and it happens to be this Saturday, September 27, 2014! What is NPLD? It began in 1994 as a way to encourage people to volunteer at national parks and public lands. Last year an estimated 175,000 volunteers worked across the nation and it’s territories to help clean up and spruce up our national parks. That’s amazing right?
I knew that on certain national holidays our National Parks offer free admission. However, NPLD is another freebie day that I hadn’t heard of before. If you are lucky enough to live near a National Park or your travel plans included visiting a National Park then hooray for you! Admission will be free this Saturday. Many of the parks will also have ways for you to volunteer in support of NPLD.
After I researched more about this day, I’m totally in! There are several NPLD activities right here near the Tampa Bay and Central Florida area that you can support. Many are also very kid friendly providing activities for the little ones. Some provide lunch and beverages as well. Take a look and see if you can find some time to help spruce up our parks and sign up. Be sure to let them know that Outdoorsy Diva sent you! Also be sure to share this post on your socials and tell all of your friends.
Tampa Bay and Central Florida:
- Hillsborough River State Park
- Honeymoon and Caladesi Island State Parks
- Anclote Key State Park & Lighthouse
- Little Manatee River State Park
If you don’t live in the Tampa Bay Area, use the NPLD Site Finder to locate an event near you!
Our parks are beautiful treasures and nothing breaks my heart more than to be at a spring or enjoying one of our rivers and see trash! Let’s show mother nature some TLC this weekend. Even if you can’t attend one of the scheduled events, go to your local county park or regional park and just start helping out!
