I’ve been pretty consistent over the last few years with planning a spring break trip of some kind for my son. This year, that didn’t happen because of so many other plans we have in the works. Instead I planned one day midweek for us to have some mom and son bonding time. As I’ve shared before, the dynamic with teenagers is a little different but I try to keep our lines of communication open. The best way for me to get him to open up and to really get a pulse for how he’s doing is when we’re eating something ridiculous — cuz we’re foodies and that’s our thing — or when we are doing something fun (and slightly dangerous). Fun for us happens often; I guess it’s a perk of having a child young. I’m still a big kid even in my mid thirties. Oh dear God…mid thirties. Did I really just say that? Anywho, it was the perfect opportunity for us to take advantage of an invitation to experience the MOSI Sky Trail, which is a rope course and zip line. Continue Reading
Last night I attended Potted Potter – The Unauthorized Harry Experience with my teenage son and Portkey To Magic, the premiere adult Harry Potter fan group in the Tampa/St. Pete area. We came decked in robes, scarves, school uniforms, and yes — wands! Continue Reading…
Valspar Championship, part of the PGA Tour, has arrived in the Tampa Bay area! The Copperhead course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm, Harbor, FL will take center stage this week as the golf tournament gets underway. Last week as part of a sponsored blogger event, I got the pleasure of a sneak peak of the behind the scenes happenings and what it takes to make an event like this happen. It is a most impressive undertaking, with 125 tents, 1988 bleacher seats at the various holes, 11 scoreboards, and the use of 60,000 feet of rope! The organizers of the tournament have done such a fantastic job of putting together an array of activities that are great for those who are golf fans as well as those of us who aren’t die-hard fans or don’t even play golf at all!
I have a fantastic announcement! I was invited to attend the Valspar Championship 2015, part of the PGA Tour that comes to Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida. Thanks to Valspar Championship, you can win tickets in this sponsored giveaway to attend a day at the tournament.
This year the tournament is March 9 – 15th on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook. It just so happens to coincide with Hillsborough county spring break dates. Can you say “Winning”?! I am always looking for new and unique ways to spend spring break with the kiddos and enjoy the outdoors. Attending this golf championship is perfect for my family because my guys are really into golf. The big guy and my 15 year old son watch a lot of Golf Channel and go to the driving range and the course frequently. The 6 year old enjoys going to whack the balls at the range.
I know that a golf tournament won’t be the most exciting thing to hold the attention of a 6 year old, or me for that matter, for the entire time. The great news is that Valspar Championship aims to be an extremely family friendly event with plenty of activities away from the action taking place on the course.
Here is a list of the fun non-golf activities to look forward to at the Valspar Championship:
Color scouts will be roaming the course looking for the most colorfully dressed fans, who will be awarded prizes.
Valspar “Shot Spots”
Shot Spots will encourage attendees to get snap happy and social; these four designated Shot Spots around the course will provide a lively backdrop for fun family photos. Photos at these locations tagged with #valsparchampionship will be eligible for the chance to win prizes.
Valspar Color Experience 2015, located behind the 18th green.
Will feature lawn games plus a menu of indoor activities. Surprise autograph sessions with PGA TOUR players will be announced periodically in this space, as well.
Jabil Family Fun Zone
An expanded Jabil Family Fun Zone presented by Publix is going up in the area near the 8th green with a 16-foot climbing wall and 9-hole putting course among other activities. It also will be the congregating spot for mascots from various area sports teams, such as the Lightning’s Thunderbug. The Valspar Championship offers free admission for all of those aged 15 and under if accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Free concert featuring the Grammy Award-winning country artists The Band Perry after play on the Osprey Driving Range.
Frenchy’s Pool Party
Relax and enjoy the concessions on the covered pool deck located behind the 18th green.
Bright House Sports Network Pavilion (between 10 tee and 18 green)
Tires Plus Driving Range
Michelob ULTRA 19th Hole
Beringer Wine Bar (overlooking the Putting Green)
Fan Expo Area
Baycare Health & Wellness Station
I’m really looking forward to the special preview event on this Friday where I will get more details on all of the fun activities that they have planned. Stay tuned for that review so that you know what to expect during all of the exciting action taking place next week!
The giveaway is underway from now through Friday! Good luck!

For the 2nd year in a row Universal Orlando held A Celebration of Harry Potter Weekend, complete with movie memorabilia, interactive activities, demonstrations, and panels with some of the actors from the films. I attended last year and it was phenomenal. However, nothing could have prepared me for what would be one of the best days ever in life. Continue Reading…
