Glamping in Texas Hill Country at Living Waters on Lake Travis

If you’re a fan of waterfalls, wine, and amazing views then a Texas Hill Country Vacation is perfect for you. My son and I were traveling back home to Dallas for my aunt’s 70th birthday party, so I decided to take advantage of the need to travel and spend our spring break doing something different in Texas. With a little research on Glamping Hub, I discovered that Texas is a glamping gold mine! There were so many options to choose from for glamping in Texas but my budget helped to narrow down my choices and I settled on Living Waters on Lake Travis

Living Waters is a unique earthy eco yoga retreat compound that is totally unassuming from the road.  It sits up on a bluff overlooking the Perdanales River and honestly the photos on the website didn’t really do it justice.

There is a huge house that can be rented and 3 adorable cabins. There’s also a cottage over the mainhouse were the property managers live. I booked the Red Eco-Cabin for our stay because it came with a second full size bathroom with a private outdoor wine deck.   All of the cabins rent for the same price so it’s just a matter of what amenities you need and how much space you require.

The red eco cabin is called the “love bungalow”. It was adorable! I loved the expansive wall of shelves and funky decor. There are also window panels all around the top of the cabin letting in just enough light. There’s also floor to ceiling glass on the opposite wall with drapes for privacy and climate control. I was in love with this cabin as soon as I walked in.

It has a queen size bed, microwave, toaster oven, and coffee maker. There’s also a small refrigerator and the most important element, especially for a hot Texas vacation, an air conditioner!! They also had a small heater so this glamping site is fully equipped for any season.

I loved the wooden recyclable utensils and dishes available for use in the cabin.  With it just being my son and I, we had plenty of space to move around. For our needs it was perfectly fine, but I can certainly see why they recommend it for couples.

The other 2 cabins have more sleeping options so they would be better suited for families or groups of friends.

The detached master bathroom was just a few steps away and thankfully it was also climate controlled with its own A/C unit. It had a large deep tub and the cutest shower head! It was wrought iron and had dragon flies encircling it. It was like a spring rain with the perfect water pressure. They also had lavender soap, shampoo, and conditioner and yes, ladies…a mirror. When I’m glamping or camping, not having a mirror in the bathroom really annoys me so this was a win.

Let’s talk about this private wine deck.  There was a winding stair case on the side of the detached bathroom that leads you up to the deck. It had lights strung up all around, a table, and chairs.  From the deck you could see the expanse of the whole property and in the evenings you could see the deer come out to graze in the field behind the property!   It was also a great spot to watch the Texas sunset. For a nice evening on the wine deck, I took my wine bottle, wine glasses from the cabin, and the all important Off Clip On.

The grounds of Living Waters are just so inviting and relaxing. We both enjoyed spending time in the hammock taking naps. We also took a walk down the path to the river. There’s a floating lake house that can be accessed by all guests. They had some recent heavy rains so the lake level was pretty high and the walkway plank was submerged in the water so we didn’t venture out there this time.

They have an outdoor pavilion area where they conduct yoga, birdhouses and flowers so there’s an abundance of birds and butterflies on the grounds, and there’s an outdoor grill. The best special touch was when the property manager came by to offer us lettuce and homemade dressing from the garden on the grounds! It doesn’t get more local than that.

Texas Blue Bonnets

The Living Waters on Lake Travis property is a Texas Hill Country oasis, perfect for glamping in Texas Hill Country, that completely exceeded my expectations. If you want to a place to recharge and relax and disconnect from the daily grind this is an ideal place to do just that. I packed a lot into our itinerary because we wanted to take advantage of the adventure in the area but I really do wish we had more time to just enjoy the property.

This is a great home base to explore the Texas Hill Country region.  The Stone House Vineyard and winery is walking distance from the property so I highly recommend visiting there to do a tasting.  We also did the Cypress Valley Canopy Tours zipline which is a short drive from Living Waters. We took the journey to explore the Hamilton Pool waterfall, Perdanales Falls, and Krause Springs. There are also some really dope waterparks in the region that weren’t quite open for season during our visit.

I loved this area and it would be great to come back for a girlfriends retreat and rent the big house! Seriously check it out on their website. It’s gorgeous! Maybe next time.

With modern amenities, scenic grounds, a tranquil atmosphere, and personal touches this Texas glamping retreat is Outdoorsy Diva approved!

Tips to Plan Your Own Outdoorsy Glamping Adventure:

  • You will need a rental car. The closest major airport is Austin and this place is about an hour outside of Austin.
  • There are general stores and gas stations but you can’t just run to the store, so on your way in when you pass through the suburbs, go ahead and stop at HEB and get your supplies for your stay.
  • Yes, they had a wine opener in the cabin. (I mean that’s like really important information but I always travel with my own just in case.)
  • Glamping is cutesy and all but bugs come with the territory. Be prepared and have your Off Clip On fan. They also supplied us with citronella candles up on the wine deck to help keep the mosquitos at bay.
  • Give yourself some downtime to enjoy the property. I didn’t have time to schedule a massage or a yoga session and I definitely wish I had been able to get my zen on.
  • Walk around the area and the fields at dawn and dusk and you will likely see the deer. I heart them so much!
  • If you come in the spring the blue bonnets will be abundant!! I just love seeing that sea of blue everywhere.
  • GlampingHub.com is a great resource to find other glamping spots all over! Texas has quite a few of them.

I’ve been wanting to try Glamping for a few years now. After reading this I want to try it even more. I know we don’t have many options here in Maryland but I have to go.
