Hyde Park Village in Tampa Bay: Revisiting a Forgotten Fun Spot

20150728_233654605_iOS

I recently got the opportunity to rediscover one of Tampa’s little jewels. I had a chance to go to an outting with my Tampa Bay Bloggers family to the Hyde Park Village blogger stroll.  Hyde Park Village is in South Tampa.  It’s cutesy, with restaurants, shops, and condos and an eat in movie theater.   For me it’s one of those forgotten gems of Tampa.   If you live near the area or are big on the South Tampa social scene then I’m sure it’s a place you frequent.  Living in suburbia for so long I honestly just forgot about it.  I didn’t even know what storefronts were still there. My circle of friends never mention visiting there.  Clearly we have been missing out on a great bougie destination.   Read More »

Tampa Summer of Rum Fest 2015 Giveaway

Summer of Rum Fest Tickets

Hey friends!  I hope you are having a fantastic summer so far.  I know it’s almost time for us to send the kids back to school, but there is still summer time fun to be had.  Drum roll please…… It’s almost time for Summer of Rum Fest 2015 on National Rum Day, August 15th! Last year I attended my first Summer of Rum Fest and it was a blast.  I held the Rum Awards on my blog and crowned my favorite rums of the day.  I’m looking forward to seeing what new rum inspired concoctions make their appearance at this year’s festival. A Non Racing Fan’s Epic First NASCAR Race Experience

FIRST NASCAR RACE EXPERIENCE

Watching cars zoom around a track at unimaginable speeds is a great American past time for some.  It’s not something I really grew up watching. I know a few big names but that’s about it. The extent of my racing knowledge is grounded in Talladega Nights and Disney/Pixar’s Cars, the animated movie. Now the guy I used to date was really into racing and I had gone to a few drag races, and even some dirt track races with him.  I’ve even seen the inside of the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the snow. However I had not been to an actual NASCAR event and taking a solo day trip to Daytona Beach, Florida to one of the Sprint Cup series races was a unique adventure, even for me.

The Smithfield Brand invited me to come over to Daytona for the Coke Zero 400 last week and I jumped at the chance because as long as I have lived in Florida, I’ve actually never seen the Daytona International Speedway. Smithfield is the brand that fuels the Richard Petty Motorsports Sprint Cup Series race team No.43 with bacon. No really guys it says so on the No. 43 car and everything. They are one of the major brand sponsors for the RPM team and they held some kick booty events as part of the Coke Zero 400 festivities.  Here’s a list of my favorite moments from this non racing fan’s epic first NASCAR race experience. Best Places to Eat on Lake Erie Ohio

When we were planning our recent visit to the Ohio Lake Erie/Sandusky/Cleveland region, my son made me promise we would go in search of a Man vs Food challenge, you know the Travel Channel show where the guy eats ridiculous crazy things that local restaurants dream up. I’ll be honest.  I was looking forward to lots of things on our trip, the Kalahari Resort Waterpark, island hopping to Put In Bay and Kelleys Island, seeing the lighthouse, and seeing the migration of the world famous warblers at BWIAB.  I really hadn’t given much thought to the food aspect of the trip but I’m always down for a foodie adventure.  The food exceeded expectations. Here’s a recap of the best places to eat on Lake Erie Ohio (in no particular order).

1. Local Food Truck

When you visit the Lake Erie region you will see one item on just about every menu. Lake Erie Perch rules up in these parts.  You can get it fried, in fish tacos, or in a sandwich.  We ate perch several times during our trip.   We had fried perch from a local food truck set up during the Biggest Week in American Birding festivities.  When I heard some of the birders talking about lunch plans I decided to tag along and see how Ohio does a fish fry.
