What to Expect on Your First Deep Sea Fishing Trip

what to expect on your first deep sea fishing trip

We recently celebrated my son’s 16th birthday.  When I asked him what he wanted to do to celebrate this milestone, I was expecting him to want a party or maybe even ask for a reason to use his passport. What he actually asked for surprised me — he wanted a deep sea fishing trip with his friends. I didn’t see that coming. No denying him, he’s totally my kid.  Of course he wants an adventure for his birthday! That’s definitely not what most 16 years his age are asking for and I was more than happy to oblige his request.  Read More »

Weeki Wachee River – Best Place to Kayak in Florida

Best Place to kayak in florida

Last month the blog turned 2 years old! What better way to commemorate the occasion than to do something outdoorsy! I decided to return to the best place to kayak in Florida (also my favorite paddle location) for a kayak excursion on the Weeki Wachee River with my Outdoorsy Diva and Friends group. (Not a member of my group yet? You should be! We do fun stuff.) For this event I reserved our group kayak trip with Weeki Wachee Kayaking. I used a different outfitter on previous excursions, but their times tend to be a bit more restrictive and just wouldn’t work for this trip because we wouldn’t be able to get there until the afternoon. A friend referred me to Weeki Wachee Kayaking, which has leased a launch on the river on the property of Weeki Wachee Christian Camp.  (Weeki Wachee Kayaking provided a free kayak rental in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinion of my experience. Full Disclosures.)

Atlanta Glamping Adventure

atlanta glamping adventure

Ahhhh Atlanta, also known as the Hollywood of the South.  I love visiting Atlanta, Georgia because there is an abundance of things to do and I’ve always had friends to visit who live there. My son and I have visited the MLK memorial, the amazing whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium, and we’ve done the Snow Mountain winter wonderland at Stone Mountain. What you may not know is that Atlanta is a hop skip and a jump away from some pretty sweet places to get your nature on.  (See past post about Chattahoochee tubing and Anna Ruby Falls.) In fact, there are at least 8 Georgia state parks within an hour to hour and a half driving distance.  Read More »

Family Travel Adventure: Wiping Out At the Kalahari Waterpark Resort, Sandusky

Ride Wives in Winter

Waterparks are a definite summertime privilege that we all look forward to.  However, Florida waterparks in the summer also come with the perils of scorching hot pavement when you come out of the water, bugs that like to fly around and ruin the fun, and those pesky summer storms that roll in just about everyday with their ominous clouds and thunder and lightning that forces you out of the water to seek shelter.  It’s a real struggle bus sometimes.  But what if I told you there was a glorious place where you can enjoy the waterpark rain or shine, cold or hot, and there are no wasps, ants, or mosquitos around to harass you . Where is this mermaid mecca?  It’s the massive indoor waterpark at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio, the largest indoor waterpark in America!  Read More »

Lake Erie Shores and Islands: Biggest Week in American Birding Experience

Magee Marsh Ohio

Back in September, I shared about a day trip I took to the Lake Erie island town of Put-In-Bay on South Bass island when I was in the nearby area for Bloggy Con. I was smitten with the area and its beauty and the friendly people. Just a few weeks ago at the beginning of the spring season, I was invited to come back to the area to participate in the Biggest Week in American Birding, one of the most respected and highly anticipated birding events in the country. I was also able to have an extended visit of not only Put-In-Bay, but the other areas of the Lake Erie Shores and Islands area.  They wanted me to get the full Lake Erie Love experience!  They sure know how to make a girl feel welcome. I’m so excited to share these new domestic travel stories with you througout the month of June!  It was filled with new adventures and experiences and perfect to continue our celebaration of Great Outdoors Month.
