Take a Walk on the Fun Side for Spring Break!
This year is the 10th spring break with my son since he started big boy school. Don’t tell him I called it “big boy school”. We have made so many awesome memories and had so much fun. I’m not saying I’m an expert, but I’ve got a pretty good track record for fun with my son. Now that he’s a teenager, I’ve been a bit apprehensive about when the magic would run out. He’s hormonal and moody sometimes as most teenagers are. However, we still have a great relationship. He still wants to hang out with mom and he fully expects me to deliver a healthy dose of fun this spring break as I always have. The list below are all things that a teenager would find it very hard to complain about. Just remember that while they may resist the idea at first, once they get immersed into the activity your sweet child will return and the teenage monster will go into hiding just for a little while. Good luck!
Valspar Championship, PGA Golf Tour – Family friendly day of golf featuring rock climbing, sports team mascots, a putting green and many other fun activities. Oh and there’s some pretty important golf happening too. Win for you. Win for the kiddos. Cost: $30 in advance. Kids 15 and under FREE

Free (Well …..mostly free)
I’m a single mom; I completely understand that sometimes our budget just won’t let us be as great as we would like to be. I have always made it a point to do something fun with my son Jaylon even when my budget was nothing but gas money. We don’t get these years back, so make the most of it. Kids just want our time. It doesn’t have to be grand. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it absolutely has to be fun! Here’s a few of the free and cheap ideas to get your wheels turning.
- Myakka State Park – Canopy walkway in the tree tops and lake tours
- Caspersen Beach – Shark tooth fossil hunting
- Manatee Viewing Center at Big Bend – Watch the manatees up close and personal
- Edward Medard Regional Park – Fishing, frisbee golf, and trails
- Pick a spring…any spring will do really. The Florida springs are a great way to enjoy spring break. They are a constant 72-74 degrees year round.

February 3, 2015 at 8:53 amI love all these ideas! I would even add the TECO Manatee Viewing Center to your list as a frugal way to visit the manatees. It’s the perfect time of year to see manatees up-close and personal.
