Discovering My Ancestry with Help From Groupon Coupons

ancestry dna

I’ve always been curious about my ancestry. As an African American, our history in the United States and geneology is complex and varied. Of course we know that our origins are in Africa but I’ve still wondered exactly where.

I decided that I would take an Ancestry DNA test to find out because I want to visit all of the places where my DNA is traced back to. Thanks to Groupon coupons, you can get deals on their tests, free shipping, or a discount on a membership to the site. (This post is sponsored thanks to Groupon. Full Disclosure)

The membership is cool because it allows you access to documentation and photos and all kinds of information to help you on your journey to learning where you are from. It shows you the DNA matches you have and to what degree you are most likely related. Your relatives can also contact you.

So where in the world is the Outdoorsy Diva from?  Tada!!!  Here are my results.

I’m from West Africa as most African Americans are but it’s neat to see the other places as well.  Of course the biggest surprise is the 16% European.

I knew there was mixed ancestry due to the atrocity of slavery. It’s no secret that slave owners frequently sired children with their slaves. However I didn’t expect it to be that large of a percentage. There are other tests specifically for people of African descent that have databases that can match your DNA down to the tribe. That’s my ultimate goal so that I can visit those specific regions.

I look forward to visiting all of the regions in my results and learning more about my ancestry.  Lucky for me Groupon Coupons can help me with my travel plans too with coupons for Expedia, Priceline, and Hotels.com.

Wow, that’s so cool. One day I want to see my dna like this. My family has traced our lineage but I’d love to know more.
